FOIA Request to Alamance County Election Department Regarding Upcoming Election Candidates on February 5, 2025.

On behalf of the Burlington Reporter, a media organization dedicated to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, we submitted a request under the North Carolina Public Records Law, G.S. §132-1. The request was made for records preferably in electronic format.

The information sought includes a list of all candidates running in the upcoming election. Specific details requested about each candidate include their first, middle and last names; the office they are running for; jurisdiction of the office; and party affiliation.

In addition to these details, we also requested contact information for each candidate. This includes their address, phone number, and email address.

As members of the media committed to gathering and reporting news to the public, access to public records is essential for us to fulfill our professional responsibilities. These responsibilities include holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public. Given our role in disseminating information, we believe we are eligible for a fee waiver as media professionals.

We remain open for any questions or clarifications regarding this request from the Alamance County Election Department.
