Rep. Jon Hardister said he is grateful he had the chance to spend time with Cornerstone Charter Academy’s robotics team during a recent visit to the school.
“It was great to visit with the Crypto Cardinals,” Hardister wrote in a Feb. 28 Facebook post.“ I am very impressed with the work they are doing. This experience will help these students embark on a path to a successful, good-paying career. I will continue working to enhance state-level support for robotics teams across North Carolina.”
The Crypto Cardinals are a group of eighth to 12th grade students at the public charter school who are part of the FIRST Tech Challenge. The mentor-based program helps students develop skills in the areas of science, technology, engineering and math, as well as in leadership, self-confidence and communication.
In addition to supporting robotics, Hardister recently showed his support of the importance of reading. He visited Jesse Wharton Elementary and Nathanael Greene Elementary in observance of Read Across America Day. Also known as Dr. Seuss Day, the initiative encourages children to read more books and focuses on the benefit reading has on school performance.
