Hawfields Presbyterian Church recently issued the following announcement.
A word about seasons. As we officially enter the season of Summer, we also find ourselves in the part of the Church calendar called Ordinary Time. Ordinary, the way we might commonly think of that, means usual, nothing special. But when we think of our time in this moment it seems distinctively extraordinary. But when the calendar talks about Ordinary Time, it’s a way of describing time as the domain of God. The times are not in our hands, they are in God’s. What we make of the time we have is our answer to God’s grace, not a representation of our control. And while the temptation might be to try and fill the time we’ve been given in the midst of the pandemic, pay closer attention to the opportunities for rest and renewal this time presents. We must be busy with God’s work. But don’t forget that that work includes divinely mandated, ordinary, rest. We’re in a pandemic. “Any time not sick is time well spent (Julie Nolke)”.
I also want to sincerely thank all those folks who shared their thoughts and time with me over the last week. It has a been a garden of learning that I appreciate greatly.
Peace,
David
