Burlington residents can complete permitting and licensing needs through a newly launched online application portal called BurlingtonSmart, city officials said in August.

Using a cloud-based technology system, community members can track inspections and engineering permits, planning and zoning applications, as well as beer and wine licenses, city officials said in an Aug. 11 news release, about the new portal.

"If you want to build a deck in your back yard, you can go to BurlingtonSmart, submit your application and your digital plans, pay your fees, and schedule the required inspections all on the BurlingtonSmart platform," Burlington Director of Inspections Jay Mebane said in the release. "We believe BurlingtonSmart will make the process easier for everyone from homeowners to contractors to our staff."

The city's planning manager, Conrad Olmedo, said in the release that the new system will be a "more efficient and streamlined" way for the municipality and residents to deal with permitting and licensing.

Residents can also visit the municipal building on South Lexington Avenue to use the on-site computer to access BurlingtonSmart.
