Republican Amy Galey has won her election bid for Senate District 24, defeating Democratic opponent J.D. Wooten.

Galey expressed gratitude in a statement posted on her Facebook page on Nov. 4.

“Thank you, voters of Senate District 24, for the privilege of serving you. I am grateful and humbled to be given the responsibility of representing you.

“Thank you, Fred, Mary, Jack, and Sam for your hard work and for putting up with me.

“Thank you, Mom & Dad, Fred Sr & Fran, for your support and encouragement every step along this wild journey.

“Thank you, friends, volunteers, contributors of all kinds to this campaign. We were successful because of your investment and willingness to sacrifice for the good of the community. And thank you to the volunteers for all the campaigns, up and down the ticket, Republican and Democrat. Your passion for engagement is what makes our Republic work.

“I wish JD Wooten all the best in his future endeavors. I am sure that many wonderful and exciting opportunities are in store for him.”

Wooten conceded in a message to his supporters on Facebook.

“Thank you to everyone who took a chance on our campaign! While I am disappointed that we did not prevail, I am so proud of the race we ran. Again, thank you from the bottom of my heart for all of your support,” he wrote.
