ALAMANCE 4-H CLUB: The Giving Closet to be Held December 10

Alamance 4-H Club recently issued the following announcement.

The Giving Closet

Durham County Center

Thu 12/10 9 AM - 1 PM

Welcome Baby / Durham County Cooperative Extension, 

721 Foster St., Durham NC 27701

DESCRIPTION:

The Giving Closet provides free clothes for ages 0-5 and maternity clothes for Durham County families with children ages birth to 5 years old. Baby equipment may also be available. Families may attend four times during the program year.

The Welcome Baby Giving Closet has reopened on Thursdays. The hours during COVID-19 pandemic will be 9 am- 1pm! Distribution of clothing is by appointment only and will be done through the same drive through, contact-less system employed for our Diaper Distribution.

Call 919-560-7150 to make your appointment. Families with no appointments will be turned away. Guidelines for distribution include:

  • Orders are due by 5pm Tuesday (no late orders will be accepted)
  • Send completed order forms through FB messenger, email  welcomebabydurham@gmail.com , Fax 919-560-0530
  • Arrive on time to check in at the Durham County Cooperative Extension's parking lot entry way. If you miss your appointment, you will have to reschedule for the next available time.
  • Open to Durham County residents only. You will be asked to show proof of residency, children's birth certificate or Medicaid and parent's ID. 
  • We will also be checking children's car seats. If your child is not properly restrained, we will be not able to serve you until you have attended a car seat safety workshop.
  • We will not be distributing diapers on this day. Diaper distribution will still be on Fridays

Free Laropa is a program that provides clothing for children ages 0-5 and maternity clothing for pregnant mothers is for all families residing in Durham County with newborn children up to the age of 5. Families can visit the free clothing program up to 6 times a year.

The free clothing program reopened on Thursdays. The new hours during this COVID-19 pandemic time are 9 am-1pm! Clothing distribution will be by appointment only and self-service only, as will the method used during diaper distribution.

You can call this number to make an appointment 919-560-7150. Families that do not have an appointment will not be seen. It will be distributed as follows:

  • You must place your order before 5pm on Tuesday (orders will not be accepted after this time)
  • Send your completed forms by FB messenger, Email  welcomebabydurham@gmail.com , Fax 919-560-0530
  • Please be in time to register at the Durham County Cooperative Extension's parking garage entrance. If you cannot keep your appointment, you will have to make another appointment for another available time.
  • For Durham County residents only. You will be asked for proof of address, your child's birth certificate or Medicaid card and the identification of the mother or father who is present at that time. 
  • Child safety seats will be checked. If your child is not properly seated and protected with a seat belt, we cannot assist you until you attend a Car Seat Safety class.
  • During this day, diapers will not be distributed, they will be distributed only on Fridays
