GRAHAM POLICE DEPARTMENT: To Hire Six Community Police Officers

Police

Graham Police Department issued the following announcement on Nov. 23.

The Graham Police Department has been awarded a $750,000.00 federal grant through the US Department of Justice Office Community Oriented Policing Services (COPS Office) The funding will allow the Graham Police Department to hire six full-time  community police officers to serve the citizens of the City of Graham.

Historically, the last time the Graham Police Department increased its patrol division staffing levels to this extent was following a COPS grant that was awarded to the department in 1997. Police Chief Cole was hired under that grant and has personally witnessed the impact federal grant funding can have on community safety.

After securing two full-time officer positions in the last budget cycle, Chief Cole began applying for grants to identify additional funding to hire more police officers. CHIEF QUOTE: “Increasing our department’s staffing has been a priority for years.

This funding will enable us to hire six officers who will be dedicated to focusing on improving quality of life issues and establishing lasting community partnerships."  Chief Cole will be available for interviews to discuss the grant funding today between 10:00 am and 01:00 pm.

Members of the media can schedule an interview with the chief by contacting Captain Velez at 336-693-7668.
