Rhonda Villasenor now has the opportunity to build a pool, go on vacation and maybe even start a new business, thanks to winning more than $275,000 from the North Carolina Education Lottery.
“It was almost like an out-of-body experience,” Villasenor of Mebane, told NC Education Lottery officials when she claimed her prize on May 19. “I was screaming so much, I was freaking my dogs out. They must have thought something was wrong with me.”
Villasenor, 50, already owns a concrete company, but she said some ideas for a new business have been on her mind lately.
The winning $2 Lucky for Life ticket was for $500,000 before taxes. Villasenor had the choice of receiving $25,000 a year for the rest of her life or taking a one-time payout that netted her $276,943 after taxes were withheld.
Lucky for Life is one of four games of chance the state offers that give players the option of purchasing tickets at a retail location or online. Villasenor bought hers using Online Play. The odds of winning the prize she won are one in 1.8 million.
Proceeds go to the public school systems, and last year lottery sales raised $9.6 million for Alamance County, according to the North Carolina Education Lottery website.
