When his dog Abby was taken from his yard, Harry Mashburn was devastated. He searched for her, put up signs around the neighborhood and more.

Ten months later, the wait is over and Mashburn is happy to be back with his pet.

“Some people don’t realize what animals can mean to people,” Mashburn said in a Wednesday WBTW news report. “When you got them like this that stay in your house, sleeps with you, different things like that, you get awful attached.”

A pet groomer helped get Abby back to her owner. Shelby Murray started asking the woman who brought her in some questions, figuring something just wasn’t right.

“I started looking at the dog and immediately I knew the dog was not who she said the dog was,” said Murray, who has been Abby's groomer for the past seven years. Although she hadn’t heard that Abby had gone missing, she called the Mashburns immediately.

Abby is a little worse for wear, with long matted fur and an ear infection, but the Mashburns will help her recover.

“I came here, and Abby knew both who we were and what we were, and I was just overjoyed to see her,” Mashburn told WGHP. “I just knew it was going to make my wife so much better.”
