City of High Point Public Library issued the following announcement on Sept. 19.
“Books Unite Us. Censorship Divides Us.” This is the theme for this year's Banned Books Week, celebrating the freedom to read.
Forty years ago, this event was launched in response to a sudden surge in the number of challenges to books in schools, bookstores and libraries.
We're still dealing with some of the same threats today.
