The Alamance Art Extravaganza is coming back after a two-year COVID-19 hiatus. The event is this weekend, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and from noon to 5 p.m. Sunday. It will feature 21 local artists, including works by Jean Kaplan, president of the Alamance Artists Guild.

In her time as an artist, she developed an affinity for working with cloth to create unique clothing pieces.

"I do a lot of wearables,” she told thetimesnews.com. “One of my favorites was a long jacket that on a smaller person would be mid-hip but on a longer person would be shorter.”

The Artists Guild and 31 businesses are sponsoring the show.

Hundreds of art choices, and artists’ demonstrations can be seen, and attendees can enter a raffle for distinctive artworks at the indoor event.

The Artists Guild started in 2007, giving local artists a way to network together. Increasing the awareness of handmade objects and facilitating networking among artisans are the goals of the guild. Curious creators, amateur artists and guests are welcome to attend the group’s monthly meetings.

Deb Barnett, vice president of the Alamance Artists Guild, said she joined the guild about 15 years ago after she moved to Alamance County.

"I was looking for a group of folks that I could join and this Guild was an opening, welcoming group of folks,” Barnett said.

Barnett has enjoyed what the Guild has to offer her creatively, as she creates functional, hand-made pottery pieces.

"They're able to share their resources and expertise with us,” she said in the report. “They have programs that extend knowledge and it's welcoming of people from different areas and of different levels of expertise."

The event will be at the Vailtree Event Center, located at 1567 Bakatsias Lane, Haw River. The group meets every third Tuesday of the month (except August and December) at 7 p.m. in the Small Dining Room of the Church of the Holy Comforter, located at 320 East Davis Street, Burlington.
