A knife was found on a student involved in a fight at Eastern Alamance High School in Mebane.
Officials said the student will be charged with a crime and disciplined by the school, according to Newsbreak.com.
"We wanted to make you aware of an altercation today between two students at Eastern [Alamance] High School," the Alamance-Burlington School System said in a message to parents. "A knife was recovered. Criminal charges will be brought in addition to school-imposed disciplinary measures."
The fight occurred at approximately 9 a.m. on Monday, Newsbreak.com reported. Neither student was injured. School officials sought involvement from the Alamance County Sheriff's Office after the knife was discovered.
The school system sent an alert to parents to keep them apprised of the matter.
"We are committed to the safety of our students, staff, and school campus and appreciate the quick work by our SRO [School Resource Officer] and admin team," the message said. "We will continue to be transparent and clearly communicate with our families about safety issues when they arise."
The incident occurred days after a mass shooting was committed by a teenager in Raleigh.
