City of High Point issued the following announcement on Jan. 4.
Performs difficult professional and administrative work supervising the planning services division of the Planning and Development Department. Work is performed under the general direction of the Planning & Development Director.
Essential Task:
•Supervises the planning services division of the Planning & Development Department;
•Oversees the comprehensive planning program, including the formation and revision of the comprehensive plan and related planning concerning the growth and development of the city;
•Coordinates and evaluates the work of the division staff, monitors their progress and makes changes as needed;
•Formulates and revises standards, practices and procedures governing the efficient operation of the comprehensive planning and information management programs;
•Manages and directs planning work program projects;
•Oversees geographic information support to the department;
•Oversees the coordination of US Census Bureau activities, including decennial censuses, and preparation of demographic reports;
•Communicates with City staff and the public regarding the comprehensive planning process and a variety of planning matters;
•Coordinates comprehensive planning efforts with other City departments, divisions, and public agencies;
•Manages and participates in report preparation and the development of department recommendations for various development applications;
•Provides technical and professional support to the Planning and Zoning Commission and City Council, as needed;
•Provides information to the public pertaining to plans, projects and various planning matters;
•Coordinates division work activities with other department divisions, City departments and public agencies;
•Assists with the recruiting, screening and selection of job applicants as vacancies occur;
•Conducts field surveys and participates in data collection and analysis, report preparation and the development of recommendations for various proposals, projects and studies;
•Prepares special projects and reports as directed;Participates in regional planning efforts with inter-jurisdictional committees and other agencies;
•Makes presentations to civic and professional groups and performs related activities to enhance public relations;
•Assists director as needed; and
•Ensures that all work is performed in accordance with OSHA and City Safety Standards and Policies.
Formal Education
•Bachelor’s degree in planning, geography, public administration or closely related field with seven (7) years of relevant planning experience;
OR
•Master’s degree in planning, geography, public administration or closely related field with five (5) years of relevant planning experience.
