City of Burlington issued the following announcement on Jan. 16.
It’s the Spring of 1975. Sean Wilson, a young disc jockey, is tired of playing the same forty records over and over again.
He wants to stay in broadcasting, so he answers a “blind box” ad in “Broadcasting Magazine” for a Station Manager for a “rock” station in a small Southern town, owned by a US Senator. He is hired, sight unseen.
But, when he arrives at the station, he finds out there was a typo in the ad. Instead of a hot “rock” station, it’s a deadly dull, 1940s style “block” station, where the most popular program is “The Obituary Column of the Air.”
Every hour of the day is different, with programs like “Big Band Ballroom”, “Hillbilly Hoedown” and “Top Ten Teen Tune Time.”
Even the staff says the call letters, WSSB, stand for “We Sound So Bad.”
Sean must bring the station into the modern era, placate the Senator, and find happiness, professionally and personally.
